Friday Five

1. I keep my work life mostly off the blog, but since I posted that I was starting a new job I think should tell you that so far I think it's great! I love the books I'm working on. I also love not having to spend 40 hours a week at Penn Station/MSG, and instead I get to spend it downtown. Across from a chocolate factory. Whee!

2. I'm reading Stephen King's 11/22/63. This is significant for a few reasons: a) it's the first King fiction I've read, although I am kind of obsessed with On Writing; b) I'm reading it on my (new!) iPad mini, even though I am still very much a print-book-only person; c) it's 1,000 pages. I'm the opposite of a reluctant reader, but I have to admit the length gave me pause. 1,000 pages is a commitment. It's going fast, though, and not just because my commute is longer so I have some reading time.

3. Following the advice of a fellow OneFour KidLit friend, I'm scheduling write nights/weekend afternoons in my planner to keep myself from stressing about a lack of writing time lately. Funny how scribbling "Write!" in pen a) makes me actually work during that time; b) makes me not feel guilty when I'm taking a night off some other time. Or--let's be honest--less guilty. If people could win medals for guilt, I would have some shiny gold.

4. What am I working on, writing-wise? Reading through a super-old manuscript, pre-revisions! I'm having fun with it, even if reading something from the back burner feels uncomfortably similar to reading an old diary (the cringing, the occasional cringing).

5. PORTLANDIA IS BACK!!!!! And I'm finally watching Downton Abbey (although I'm only on Season 2--no spoilers, please!)

How was your week?

I'm waiting for season 3 of DA to come on DVD. I only have time to watch things on DVD. Same for my hubby.

I'm lucky that I don't have to "schedule" in my writing. I suffer withdrawal symptoms when I'm not writing. That can be both a blessing and a curse.

I've also been scribbling "write" on my calendar lately! And it's been working - I see it and think, "Oh, okay, cool, writing time." Glad I'm not the only one who has to remind herself :)

Glad you are enjoying your new job!

I love the idea of scheduling writing time. I should try that.

I'm happy to hear your job is going well. Enjoy your weekend!

OMG you're right near my old neighborhood!!! (Unless there is a different chocolate factory downtown...) I would be dead from chocolate poisoning if I worked right across the street from there. As it was, I was about a ten minute walk (not even?). Glad to hear it's going well!

I'm so envious of your new job. I'd love to do something like that! :) The only Stephen King fiction book that I've read is THE STAND and I thought it was really good. I've been meaning to read more of his stuff. Oh, and as for medals awarded for guilt? I'd be on the podium with you. I haven't written in weeks and weeks and the guilt is eating me up. O_o

I'm happy your job is going great so far! And I looove Downton Abbey! :) I mainlined seasons 1 & 2 while I was ill in December, and now I have incredibly fond memories of that illness.

My week was busy busy busy--getting ready to move cross-country for the third time. Only one more week left on the east coast!

Congrats on your new job, lady!

I've been intrigued by 11/22/63 since it released, but have avoided it for reasons similar to yours. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

My week has been nice, actually. Today in particular. I got a pedicure AND I found ASK THE PASSENGERS at the library. I snatched it up based on your earlier recommendation. :)

Have a great weekend!

You are going to love ASK THE PASSENGERS, Katy!

I will definitely post more on 11/22/63 when I finish it--it's really got me hooked now. I actually wanted the subway to slow down today so I could read more, which says a lot.

So happy you´re loving your new job! :D
How are you enjoying 11/22/63 so far? I have watched a lot of movies based on his books and I read a few a while back but I haven´t picked up that one yet.
And yay for you finding a way to schedule writing allowing you to not only write but also not to feel guilty when you don´t.
Once this revision is done, I should try this as well :D
Hope you´re having a lovely weekend!

Glad you're enjoying your new job! I should schedule my writing time, too. I mean, I schedule in my head, but putting it in my planner sounds like a better idea. Are you liking e-reading? I did almost all of my reading last year on my Kindle because I just don't have space for more books right now.
