Friday afternoon/evening I spent lounging in Central Park with a new book:
 |
| Grapefruit soda, GONE GIRL, the Great Lawn grass |
Saturday I went out to Fire Island, one of my favorite places on Earth:
 |
| A buck wandering around the bay |
 |
| Point O' Woods near sunset |
 |
| Sunset on the Great South Bay |
 |
| Orange soda, GONE GIRL, soft white sand |
A final picture should be of a huge mug of coffee, my couch, and GONE GIRL, because that's how I spent all of Sunday.
Page-turner is an understatement for that book; it's like literary crack.* I think I finished the second half in two hours; I could not stop reading. I wasn't thrilled with the ending, but I still love the book overall, and it was a riveting reading experience.
*This probably goes without saying, but I have no experience with crack so that simile is based on conjecture and what I have learned from television.
How was your weekend? What's the last book you couldn't stop reading?

I haven't been to fire island since my son has been born, but when I did go it was only to the bars. I've never even see the beach there!
Right now I'm reading Drowning Instinct by Ilsa Bick. Everything she writes is a page turner.
I've been hearing so many good things about that book. I guess it's time I picked up a copy. :)
Right now I'm reading The Haunting of Maddy Clare. Love it!
What a great weekend! I love beach reading, but our Texas sand isn't nearly that pretty. And you've convinced me to read GONE GIRL. There's nothing I love more than a book I can't put down!
That sounds like a fantastic way to spend the long weekend. That beach looks really inviting! I spent the long weekend at the Highland Games in the Rocky Mountains, bundled up because it was really chilly! :)
Fire Island looks like the perfect spot to finish out the summer, lucky you!
I spent most of the weekend with my twin nieces, since it was their 5th birthday. Oh, and I finished HOLD STILL by Nina LaCour and started SAVING FRANCESCA by Melina Marchetta :)
I am ready for chilly weather now, Jaime! I was thinking yesterday how nice it would be to wear a sweater. :)
Wow, gorgeous sunset. Talk about a great place to relax :) And that book is on my to-read list. Will have to get to it!
OMG that book is definitely like crack! (Ha, not that I know crack personally from experience.) I couldn't put it down.
Didn't love the ending either but I thought it was interesting that the author made that choice. It's not typical but added to the creep-factor of the book.
If you're looking for a follow-up thriller, Jennifer Hillier's CREEP & FREAK are great! I'm in the middle of FREAK now and I also can't put it down.
I've heard great things about GONE GIRL... Now I know I need to pick it up! Looks like you had a lovely weekend. That sunset photo with the beach house is gorgeous... Thanks for sharing. :)
Ooh! I have Gone Girl up next in my personal reading queue (would have read it right now but picked up a library book when I dropped off books the other day). I'm a big Entertainment Weekly magazine (and website fan) and found out she is the same gillian that wrote for the magazine awhile back.
I think it was WriteonCon where an agent said they'd love to see a YA Gone Girl. I wish I wrote thrillers...
Love your collection of photos. I want to go where you did and read on the beach!
Another read I need to add to my list! And great pics! The sunset ones are BEAUTIFUL!
Okay, so I can't remember if you and I already discussed this on Twitter. We 98% sure we did. But just in case have to tell you how much I concur that YES, Gone Girl was so great and such a page turner. And yes, ending was blech.
Also, would love to see name/url as a comment option here so it would lead back to my site! :) For some reason the wordpress option doesn't work for me on Blogger blogs. Arg!
