Vacation Reading Report

I think I mentioned that my two suitcases morphed into three during my trip.
I blame the books.
I overpack everything, and that includes reading material. For this three-week trip, I took this with me:

Moloka'i
The Bungalow
Beautiful Ruins
Between Shades of Gray
MWF Seeking BFF
a nonfiction book on the lost colony of Roanoke
another nonfiction on weddings
Whole Living magazine
Smithsonian magazine
Allure

Consider that I am typically a book-a-week person, maybe sometimes two: this is overpacking at its finest.
Then I found a copy of Mark Twain's Roughing It in the Sandwich Islands in the Hana Ranch general store, and I bought that. I also picked up a copy of the Marie Claire with Kristen Wiig on the cover, because I love her. And I took the Hawaiian Airlines magazine from the seatback.

So what did I manage to read of those 8 books and 4 mags?

3 books (Moloka'i, The Bungalow, MWF Seeking BFF)
3 magazines (Allure, Smithsonian, and the Hawaiian Airlines mag, Hana Hou!)

Pretty good for being on vacation, pretty bad for my packing skills.
(I realize that a Nook would've solved this pretty easily, but I love the feel of a book in my hand while I'm at the beach.)

Do you overpack reading material? Or has your Nook/Kindle made you a smart reader-traveler?

Between Shade of Gray is amazing but definitely not a light vaca read.

I definitely overpack! I have to be in the mood to read certain books, and since there's no way I can know in advance what kind of mood I'll be in, I have to bring them all. :)

Dana: That's my philosophy!
Eliza: I'm reading it now, and I'm glad I waited until I came home to start. It's fantastic but so intense.

I try not to overpack reading material, which is why I bought myself a Kindle, but it still sort of happens. I had started reading something in book format before we left for Scotland, so I had to bring that. Veronica Roth's INSURGENT just came out the day before (and I wanted it in HB), so I had to bring that, and on and on it goes. Needless to say, we were skirting the top end of the baggage allowance which caused all kinds of stress. At least I'm not alone... :D

I have a Kindle so I've brought that with me on recent trips. But for whatever reason, I never read as much as I hope to! Maybe it's because my recent vacations involve doing activities so there isn't as much time to read. Sounds like I need a beach vacation soon. :)

I relied on the kindle this past week - though I was sucked into the lure of star trek: TNG series novels (so download-able). I think I made it through 4 or 5 of them... My husband kept asking what I was reading and I would answer: "well, there's these ancient robots who are attacking people on the ice planet..." Poor him!

I even have a Kobo (although it's so old that it's probably the equivalent of a click-wheel iPod now). I just like print books!
My one regret about the trip was that I didn't spend enough time reading on the beach--but there were so many things to see and do in Hawaii. :)

I definitely overpacked for my vacation...and then I bought several books while I was there! I wish they weren't so heavy...I ended up having to pay extra on the way back because my bag was overweight.

I always, always, always over-pack books, and then I usually end up visiting a local bookstore and buying at least one more. Looks like you did fairly well on your reading though, especially considering your trip consisted of a WEDDING (I've heard they're just a *little* time-consuming). :)
