Tuesday Miscellany

  • I finished reading Between Shades of Gray last weekend. Such a beautiful, heartbreaking book. This chilling line has stayed with me since I read it: "Have you ever wondered what a human life is worth? That morning, my brother's was worth a pocket watch." Now I really really wish I had been at ALA this year so I could've heard Ruta Sepetys speak about writing it.
  • Now I'm reading Prairie Evers, a middle-grade about moving and making friends and raising chickens. It's great.
  • I bought my copy of Liar & Spy, and I can't wait to read that next. When You Reach Me is one of my all-time favorites. I realized I've been neglecting my middle-grade TBR and there is no better time than late summer to dive into great MG reads.
  • WriteOnCon starts today! Go here for the full schedule. So many great panels and and events, so little time. Thank goodness you can access posts after the live events. :)
  • I finally joined the I.S.A.F. club on my run last night (accidentally and unintentionally, of course). Ew. But the Fudge fan in me was kind of happy. Judy Blume fan forever!
  • You can still enter to win some ARCs and great YA books--like Audrey, Wait! and Skinny--by going to this post. I think comments are now being modified, but don't worry--I will approve all posted before midnight on Friday. Good luck!

I agree thank goodnesss that the videos stay online for WriteOnCon :D Will allow me to catch up after work. With the time difference, I was able to watch some of them already during my lunch break :D
Between Shades of Gray: I need to read that book!
Hope you're having a great week, Rebecca!

Lol, I forgot about the I.S.A.F. club! Sadly I am probably also a member.

I still have yet to read BETWEEN SHADES OF GRAY, but it sounds like an amazing book. And I kind of forgot that the WriteOnCon sessions start today. Guess I should head on over!:D

Haha! I had to Google ISAF but the second I saw its meaning, that part of Judy Blume's story came rushing back. I love her work so much! I'm excited to hear what you think of LIAR & SPY... WHEN YOU REACH ME is one of my all-time faves. :)

Oh man...Ruta Sepetys talking about that book at SCBWI LA KILLED ME. It was amazing. I haven't read it yet because sad books scare me, but I had to pick up a copy after hearing what she went through to write it.

You will have to let me know how Prairie Evers is! I have that one on my shelf! And I have yet to read Between Shades of Gray, but this is the second post (out of two) this morning that mentioned it, and the cover keeps popping up all over the place. I think somebody's trying to tell me something. :)
