First things first: How. Is it. The End of August. Already?
(Related sidenote: I've noticed a lot of pumpkininny muffins and scones and beers cropping up. Now, I love me some pumpkin, but TOO SOON!)
Excuse me for a moment, while I wail about how this summer is almost over.
Anyway, perhaps because it's been a busy season I haven't read as many books as usual. This month, I read:
Between Shades of Gray
Prairie Evers
Laura Lamont's Life in PicturesLiar & Spy
and now I'm starting on Beautiful Ruins.
I've already gushed about Between Shades of Gray, Prairie Evers, and Liar & Spy, so let me share what I liked about Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures:
--Door County, WI setting (I am such a sucker for any book set in my home state)
--Depression-era Hollywood glamour
--Complicated female protagonist
--Actors and filmmaking
--Veiled references to actual, famous actors and filmmakers of bygone years
--Epic-ness of Laura's story, in that it stretched from her idyllic WI girlhood all the way to her golden years
--Beautiful, simple prose
What have you been reading this month?
And speaking of reading on the beach, I'm going to spend this last weekend of summer hopefully doing that on Fire Island. To make sure I get all my work done (and my outline written) before the weekend, I'll be taking a mini-break from the blog until next Tuesday. Happy Labor Day!

Between Shades of Grey has been on my TBR forever and I keep seeing it EVERYWHERE. I think someone's trying to tell me something. :) Also, it has to beat why I read this summer which is FIFTY Shades of Grey. Ugh.
Currently, I'm reading BITTERBLUE. It's SO GOOD. But I do not have enough time in my day to read! :(
Yes, too much pumpkin too early!
I am thrilled with how early the pumpkin stuff is coming out. I've taken to burning pumpkin candles and baking fall-ish items in an attempt to pretend summer is already over. Good riddance million degree heat!
I think I'm the only person alive who's ready for fall, like, yesterday. :) I like summer, but fall is definitely my favourite season. Sadly, it means we're just that much closer to another Canadian winter, which is just...bleh.
I picked up a copy of BETWEEN SHADES OF GREY the other day at the bookstore, and I'm really looking forward to reading it. It's the SHADES OF GREY book that actually deserves to be a NY Times Bestseller lol. Not that other one. :)
I've been wanting to read BETWEEN SHADES OF GREY forever, but for some reason I keep passing over it in favor of something else. Must remedy soon!
I'm currently reading Meagan Spooner's SKYLARK, and it's quite good so far. She has a very classic writing style, which is refreshing.
I like the sound of this. Interesting setting for something historical. Most of the novels I've seen that are set in the past always seem to be around wars or very ancient times. Old Hollywood sounds fab!
