Friday Fives: What I'm up to

What I'm reading: The Book Thief, which is incredible. I think I've mentioned it before, but I'm working my way through all the to-read books that are physically on my shelves. I think I have five left to go? And then I'm going to reward myself with a shiny new copy of Jellicoe Road, finally!

What I'm writing: Revising, actually, a YA WIP. At the moment, my butt is being kicked by it. Maybe I'm weird, though, but I like a challenge.*                        *No, I'm definitely weird.

What I'm listening (to): My iPod reconnected me with Nouvelle Vague last weekend. The cover of "I Melt with You" is my favorite.

What I'm watching: I have 2 episodes left of the fourth season of "Breaking Bad" and I am somewhat worried that the show is going to give me a heart attack. Is there better writing on TV? No. The writers are geniuses at taking an already pretty effing bad situation and making it worse. It's a lesson in tension and stakes. And "Mad Men," of course! It's finally back!

What I'm eating: One word: Cadbury. No, two words: Cadbury; marshmallow. Hey, the Easter bunny only comes once a year--but it leaves leftovers and day-after discount candy.
What are you up to this weekend?

Not weird, I like revising more than writing actually. Once everything is down on paper, I can attack it. Until then I'm like, "What? I have to write it first? Why? Whine..."

The Book Thief is such a great book. I need to do the same with my TBR pile. Not only do I have a bunch of physical books on my shelf, I also have many un-read books on my Kindle!

Breaking Bad is such a good show. I've started watching it and I'm on season 2. It's SO intense!

This is a good idea: "I'm working my way through all the to-read books that are physically on my shelves."

I have a ridic amount of unread books on my shelves. But I still end up buying more at the bookstore. It's embarrassing.

I still have yet to read THE BOOK THIEF. It's sitting on the shelf right behind me. Maybe I'll time my reading of it with D-Day on June 6th. You know, kind of like a remembrance thing.

I'm also pretty excited about MAD MEN finally returning (emphasis on the 'finally'). :D

Like Jaime, I'v neglected The Book Thief, even though I own it. Must remedy soon, especially since you're FINALLY going to read JELLICOE. :)

And yeah... You are not alone in your Easter chocolate indulgences!

Yay Mad Men. I've heard good things about Breaking Bad, maybe it will be my next marathon TV show. Also, agreed on Cadbury... they make some damn fine chocolate.

I need to watch more television - there are obviously all these incredibly awesome shows I'm MISSING. And yay for revising! That's been me off and on for the past week and I LOVE IT. We weird writers must stick together. :)

Hey we have some similarities. I'm also working through books I already own before I'm allowed to buy/loan more (although the Book Thief is on my To Read list and I don't have it!). I'm also struggling through writing my YA WIP and having an existential crisis of sorts every few days (is it worth it? will anyone ever read this? is this total garbage?)

Lastly, Breaking Bad is incredible TV (I blogged about it for "B" for my TV theme during the A to Z blog challenge this month). You probably just watched the episode where Gus is in Mexico talking with the cartel. There's a scene with no music, no quickly edited cutaway shots, just completley focused dialogue in Spanish with subtitles. And it's RIVETING. I forgot to breathe for part of it. That show is incredible.

If I can also recommend to you Justified, which just finished its 3rd TV season on the FX channel. Similarly awesome writing and excellent acting (also violent and disturbing at times, I know not everyone can handle that).

@Steph: Oh, thanks for the Justified rec! I have heard good things about that one, too. I surprise myself by liking Breaking Bad so much, despite the darkness and violence. How can you not love a show that is so well-written, well-acted, and not afraid to take risks? I do forget to breathe while watching!

Eeeeeeeek, my TBR shelVES make me hyperventilate a little. But, um, I'm still going to go a little nuts at Books of Wonder this weekend (Lauren Oliver! Tahereh Mafi! And two other authors whose books sound like awesomesauce! Plus I realized I never actually bought a copy of Scott Westerfeld's Goliath, and I'm working on that trilogy right now.) And then, I think, I am going to make myself do what you are doing. Because there is not any room left on my TBR shelves. Not any at all. (But but but...there are so many NEW books that want to come home with me! It's like walking by the cat adoption center at Petco--I want to take them ALL. But I can't, because I like being able to walk around in my apartment. Sigh.)

The Book Thief is amazing! I'm listening to Annexed right now, another WW II story.

Oh, I can't go near the cat adoption center at the Petco by me. I would take them all home, allergies be damned!
