Weird Author Hobbies

I know how to cast silver jewelry, work a centrifuge, and solder stained glass.
I collect voodoo dolls, but I don't assign them to specific people.
I am a doughnut connoisseur.
I yodel.
I love making pies from scratch using my grandma's secret recipe.
I meditate.
I (try to) run twelve miles every weekend.
I write to customer-service email addresses* in a character's voice. *but about legitimate issues, such as the discontinuation of a granola flavor

[Some of those are my hobbies. And some are lies.]

I'll admit that the pie thing is true. I share almost nothing in common with Emily Dickinson (I love poetry but I am a truly awful poet) except Emily was an avid baker, too. It was her weird author hobby.

Would you believe that Flannery O'Connor raised peacocks? Ayn Rand collected stamps? Read the Flavorwire article to find out more surprising author hobbies: Surprising Hobbies of Famous Authors

Writer-friends, when you are famous some day, about which of your hobbies will readers be surprised?

The first collection of hobbies are so cool. I'd like to take a class on metalworking-- haven't done anything hardcore craft-y since school where they had fun machinery, mwahaha. The voodoo dolls also sounds awesome(ly creepy). I think the running thing is probably true, but I'm hopeful one of the first two is as well. Do we get to find out or is this part of creating your author mystique?

I don't have any cool hobbies, I'm afraid. All the more reason for me to take a metalworking class; I have my own mystique to cultivate!

Hmmm...cool hobbies. Nope, don't have any. Well, I used to be able to play the recorder with my nose, but I'd hardly count that as cool or a hobby :) The stained glass thing is pretty neat. I'd love to know how to do that (though I'd probably end up knocking out the windows of my rental property and putting stained glass in which my landlords would hardly approve of).

Play the recorder with your nose? That's weird AND awesome!
Metalworking is true, although I don't have equipment now and haven't for a few years, so I'd need a refresher before I pick up a blowtorch.
I have a voodoo doll, singular, and the only person who ever got assigned to it was a very evil landlord. And then I felt guilty and took all the pins out; not sure if that undoes the voodoo. . . .

Hmmmm. Does my obsession with hand-shredding old papers/receipts/to-do lists count? No? Then I have no idea. But I'd like to have backyard chickens one day, so there's a goal for me.

First, this post is an example of why I LOVE stopping by your blog. :)
Second, I think the world might be surprised to know that I have the world's largest collection of Eeyores.

Have a great weekend!

I'm with Alison... You always have the cutest, most thought-proving posts and questions!

Sadly, none of my hobbies are all that surprising. I run, get my yoga on, quilt (when I have time), and spend tons of time with my daughter. Pretty boring on paper, but fun for me!

Thanks, guys! I love Eeyores, Alison, and I'm surprised/impressed to find out about your collection!

Katy, I can't even sew a button, so anyone who can quilt has me awed.
